He never did play at UNLV, as off court troubles led to him leaving the school. He enrolled and played very briefly at Mt. St. Antonio (junior college) before playing in the CBA and other minor professional leagues. During this time he was shot 3 times during a confrontation in Queens New York. Almost immediately thereafter he recovered and began playing again. When Tarkanian was named head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, he brought Daniels with him, and Daniels teamed up with David Robinson in the Spurs starting lineup.
