Solange put on an amazing show during her “Saturday Night Live” debut. She played two songs - “Don’t Touch My Hair” and “Cranes in the Sky” from her chart-topping record “A Seat at the Table."
For the second song, she welcomed Sampha on stage, who is a British singer to help her out as the featured guest on the track. The two made the song “Don’t touch My Hair,” sound soulful. Both music videos for the songs were unveiled on her surprise LP, which is her first album released in almost eight years.
Solange’s appearance on SNL was also a surprise, as it has been more than five years since a Knowles was a musical guest on the stage. The last appearance was by Beyonce back in 2008 when she performed “Single Ladies” and “If I Were a Boy”.
This will be the sixth Knowles appearance on SNL as a musical guest, along with the three visits by Beyonce and the two by Destiny’s Child. In fact, both Beyonce and Tina Knowles-Lawson were there to support Solange.
The feminine name Solange is the French version of the Late Latin name Sollemnia that was taken from the Latin word sollemnis that means “religious”. It became common after it was given to a French shepherdess, who became a saint after her master killed her.
