Ryan Coogler – Film Director

The Rocky Saga lives on in the film “Creed,” directed by Ryan Coogler. This film shows what Coogler can offer the country and to the art of film, as he both wrote and directed the film.

This is the seventh film in the Rocky Saga and shows Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone, in the end of his prime – training a younger boxer Donnie played by Michael B. Jordan. Like in the original, just as Balboa ran down the streets so too does Donnie followed by the neighborhood kids.

Coogler is able to bring a scene to life, from the background music to the characters emotions. In fact, the beauty behind his work is often denied, by many, including the Academy.

He is well-known for his first feature film, “Fruitvale Station,” that won both the Audience Award the Grand Jury Prize for the United States dramatic film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. In 2016, Coogler was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
