UFC 207 will be one of the last fights for Ronda Rousey, who is a former women’s bantamweight champion. She confirmed the news on “The Ellen Show,” and shared that the upcoming fight with Amanda Nunes will be one of the last times she will step foot into the Octagon.
There have been many rumors going around that Rousey was planning to end her fighting career. When Ellen asked her how long she had left doing mixed martial arts, she responded, “not that long.”
Before she retires, Rousey wanted to fight a couple more key matchups, sources told FOX Sports before the Nunes fight was even announced. The first thing Rousey wants to do was take back the title and then “avenge her defeat to Holly Holm”.
Rousey stated that the fights themselves weren’t wearing her down, as much as the obligations outside the ring. Not to mention the anticipation before every single fight, for weeks there is a build-up for the showdown in the cage.
Ronda Rousey was named after her father, Ron Rousey. The feminine name Ronda is a variant of Rhonda, which was probably means “good spear” taken from the Welsh word rhon that means “spear” and da that means “good”. However, the name could also have been influenced by a place in South Wales called the Rhondda Valley that means “noisy”.
The name has only been used occasionally since the beginning of the 20th century. Margaret Mackworth may have inspired the name choice with her Viscountess Rhondda, who was a British feminist.
