India’s prescient banker, Raghuram Rajan is one in a million, as he has the ability to predicted some of the biggest economic crisis the world has seen. In fact, he was able to foresee the subprime crisis that impacted the world causing the “Great Recession,” from 2003 to 2006. Not only that he stood up to many critics, including Larry Summers the former U.S. Treasury Secretary.
Rajan was the youngest chief economist of the IMF and currently serves as the governor of the central bank of India. Ever since he made the predictions about the subprime crisis more people have been taking his view that debt-fueled growth is not the only way.
He has a book that addresses the deeper issues in the economy, like credit and the impact on the global middle class which cause downward mobility, in “Fault Lines”. However, many people have not listened to his warnings, as debt has only increased over the years. Rajan was able to guide India through the global crisis, which made him a large part of the emerging market successes.
In fact, his book “Fault Lines,” won an award in 2010 from the Financial Times/ Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year. Moreover, he was honored to be named one of the “100 most influential people in the world,” by Time magazine.
