The founder of Beibei Haven, Omotade Alalade is hoping to raise awareness on the many reasons people might struggle to conceive and how to cope. She hopes to support women who have gone through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS.
The Beibei Haven is a not for profit organization that aims to provide free fertility treatments to those who are low-income earners. The organization works with some of the best fertility clinics in Nigeria to give help to those in need through grants or support.
Alalade, 30, had her own fertility issues in the beginning of her marriage and thought she was suffering alone. This fueled her passion to find others who were in the same situation and to give them the help and support she longed for when she was struggling with infertility. Alalade has had many challenges, from genotype issues to miscarriages, even a complicated pregnancy.
Right now, Alalade is working with many different medical professionals to help couples in Nigeria. In 2016, Alalade was named one of the 100 most inspirational and influential by BBC. She stated that the foundation is supposed to help those who are struggling with infertility and is growing every day.
In most cases, the name Omotade is used as a given name for boys in Yoruba. It is a common African name that means “a child is worth a crown”, “the child is the worth of the crown”, or “child of crown”.
