This new Lifetime movie “Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le,” was under fire from the producer and rapper Dr. Dre, who threatened to sue if the movie aired. This was indeed an unexpected boost to publicity for the film when he sent a “cease and desist letter to Sony about his portrayal in the biopic.”
The movie is Michel’le’s response to the biopic release last year by NWA, “Straight Outta Compton,” which does not mention Michel’le despite the fact that she collaborated with the group many times. The movie shows the professional relationships she has and the chronicles of her career.
Michel’le and Dre have a child together, Marcel, and have worked together many times. He even produced some of her biggest hits like “Something in My Heart” and “No More Lies.” However, the film does show Michel’le being abused by Dre and this has him a bit upset.
Michel’le is a modern version of the feminine name Michelle, which is the French feminine version of Michel. The masculine name Michel is the French version of Michael or is the German diminutive of Michael. Either way, the name Michael is taken from the Hebrew name Mikha’el that means “who is like God?” However, no person is like God, so this is, in fact, a rhetorical question.
The name Michelle became common in the middle of the 20th century in the English-speaking world. However, the newer version Michel’le is unique to the musician who is known mononymously as Michel’le.
