Maurizio Macri – Spanish Politician

Date 2017-01-26

As the new President of Argentina, Maurizio Macri has persuaded many Argentines and foreigners to become optimistic about the future of the country again. For many decades corruption and fiscal mismanagement have tainted Argentina's reputation and have changed the economic landscape.

As the previous governor of Buenos Aires, Macri had the experience necessary to win the election against the ruling party. In fact, he was the first person to win the presidential runoff ballotage in the history of Argentina, as the new system had just been introduced. He is also the first democratically elected Peronist and non-Radical President since 1916.

Macri took action to change the situation of the country and pledged to pay off its debts and reintegrated Argentina into the global economy. In fact, many other countries around Argentina are starting to see the success of the country according to Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Time magazine named Macri one of the 100 most influential people in the world and the most powerful president in Latin America in 2016. He was also named as one of the 50 most influential people in the world according to Fortune magazine’s annual survey.
