On the Season Premiere of Saturday Night Live, the Australian actress Margot Robbie wore a T-shirt that said: “Say ‘I Do’ Down Under.” She joined the campaign started by Kylie Minogue’s fiance Joshua Sasse to take a high-profile stand for marriage equality in her home country.
Robbie hosted the 42nd premiere of the show, which was the highest-rated opener in eight years, in a T-shirt that had a map of Australia in rainbow colors. The shirts aim to support the Australians 4 Equality, which is a coalition that believes that marriage equality should be reached, but through a free vote by parliament rather than a plebiscite.
The shirts are not yet available to the public, however, many stars are already wearing them in an effort to raise awareness and create change. In fact, many people can’t fathom why same-sex marriage is not legal in Australia and are backing up the cause.
The feminine name Margot is the French short form of Margaret, which is ultimately taken from the Greek word margarites that means “pearl”. When she was young, Margot Robbie received the affectionate nickname “Maggot” from her family. The nickname grew on her and all throughout school her family and classmates were in on the joke.
There are many notable people with the name, form Margot Bryant the British actress to Margot Kidder the famous actress who played Lois Lane from Superman. There have also been a few fictional characters with the name, including Margot Tenenbaum from The Royal Tenenbaums.
