Luhut Panjaitan – Indonesian Politician

As the current Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Panjaitan is extremely qualified. He has held many different positions in Indonesia as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs, the Minister of Trade and Industry for Indonesia for President Abdurrahman Wahid and the Presidential Chief of Staff to the President Joko Widodo.

Before his political career, Panjaitan was in the military and held many different battlefield positions, from a Commander of Infantry Weaponry to the Commander of Army Education and Training. Within the military, he was known as the creator and first commander of Detachment 81 or the red beret Kopassus.

After he retired from the military, he founded the Toba Sejahtra Group, which is a company with three main activities: electricity generation, natural resources, and agriculture. He is also the chairman of the DEL Foundation, that has started many schools, including a technology college for many underprivileged students, a kindergarten, elementary school and a bilingual high school for gifted children. Plue, he also awards funds and scholarships from the foundation for construction and educational infrastructure.

As a four-star general, he has experience in many areas, from diplomacy, military, government and business, but considered his social development skills as the most important. In 2016, Panjaitan was named one of the 20 most powerful and influential people in Indonesia by GlobeAsia magazine.
