After a decade of amazing political commentary on Comedy Central from Jon Stewart to Stephen Colbert, the scene has changed. The past 12 months have not been the same with the change in the line-up on the network.
Due to the distinct lack of hype and falling ratings, Comedy Central broke the news that it was canceling “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.” The last episode will air on Thursday at 11:30 pm.
Unfortunately, the cancellation of the show is at an awkward time, with the ensuing presidential election in the United States. However, the network had to make the decision now, as the contracts of the show's staff members were about to expire.
This makes Mr. Wilmore the first early cancellation of a late-night comedy television slate in over two years. After the trail was blazed by David Letterman and Jay Leno, many new hosts have made their way into the spotlight, from James Corden to John Oliver, or even Samantha Bee.
Mr. Wilmore made his start on “The Daily Show” with Mr. Stewart as the senior black correspondent. Eventually, becoming the successor of “The Nightly Show” with Mr. Colbert.
Larry is a masculine name, a diminutive of Laurence taken from the Roman cognomen Laurentius that means “from Laurentum”. In ancient Italy, there was a city called Laurentum, which probably derived its name from the Latin luarus or “laurel”. The name was popularized because of saint Laurence from the 3rd-century. The name is very common around the world today.
