The Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics will be an interesting sight to see. America has an amazing swimmer hitting the water for the freestyle races – Katie Ledecky. Under the coaching of Bruce Gemmell, this swimmer has shaved time off the many freestyle races she competes in. She has improved in many areas, from improving upon her personal best in the 400 freestyle to lowering the world record for the 1,500 meter freestyle.
The world-class performer is very happy under the strict and constant supervision on Gemmell after he replaced Yuri Suguiyama back in 2012. However, she has thrived under his direction, becoming faster, stronger and versatile in the water.
The name Katie is derived from Kate or Katherine, which has been used since the middle ages. These names are from the Greek name ?????????? (Aikaterine), which comes from many different source. The name could be derived from the Greek goddess Hecate, or mean “each of the two,” or “torture.” It could even have a Coptic meaning - “my consecration of your name.” Back in early Christian times, it was associated with the Greek word “pure.”
Originating back in the 4th century in Alexandria by a saint and martyr that was tortured. This saint was regarded with great respect in Syria, this was when the crusaders took his name back to Western Europe to remember him by. It has since become a very common name, with a ton of different spellings – including Katie.
