Cobie Smulders Talks About the “Jack Reacher” Film

Date 2016-10-14

The hot new movie, “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” stars Tom Cruise and the actress Cobie Smulders. They are against all the bad guys and come right from the pages of the best-selling novel by author Lee Child.

Jacoba Francisca Maria “Cobie” Smulders was one of the stars from “How I Met Your Mother,” as Robin Scherbatsky and from Marvel Cinematic Universe as Maria Hill. She plays the role of Maj, who is someone who was framed for espionage while serving as the commander of the elite military police unit. Jack Reacher (Cruise) breaks into the jail to get her out. The rest of the film shows the two of them on the run from the law.

Smulders was super excited to be in this type of role, playing a strong woman from the military. As someone who had the courage to not only enlist but move up the ladder in the military. She even performed all her own stunt work, which required a ton of training.

She loved working with Cruise on the film, and he helped to prepare her for all the high-intensity work that was required for all the stunts.

Jacoba was named after her great-aunt, who she also got the nickname “Cobie” from as well. The name Jacoba is the feminine version of Jacob, which is from a Hebrew name that means “supplanter” or “holder of the heel”, even “may God protect”. While the nickname Cobie is a diminutive of Jacoba or Jacob.
