The masculine name Isaiah is taken from the Hebrew name Yesha’yahu that means “Yahweh is salvation”. The name Isaiah is given to one of the four major prophets from the Old Testament, who supposedly wrote the Book of Isaiah. Isaiah the prophet was from Jerusalem and likely lived during the 8th-century B.C., when Assyria “threatened the Kingdom of Judah.” The name was not used as a English Christian name until after the Protestant Reformation.
