Just the 30th MLB player in history to hit a record 3,000 hits, Ichiro Suzuki of the Miami Marlins takes a new place in baseball history. Not only that the career record was topped off with a triple in the top of the seventh inning when playing a game against the Colorado Rockies.
The veteran is now 42-years-old and has accumulated 1,278 hits when he played in Japan. Plus the American hits -totals 4,278 hits during his professional baseball career. Taken together, the total puts him above the current all-time hit leader in Major League Baseball – Pete Ross – with 4,256. However, people are divided, some consider him the hit king, while other disagree stating his time in Japan doesn’t count.
Either way, you look at it, Ichiro Suzuki, has had a Career worthy of the Hall of Fame. Ichiro is currently playing in his 16th season with the MLB and has had an amazing career. From playing with All-Star teams to winning the American MVP award, he is an outstanding player.
The name Ichiro is a traditional Japanese name and is a variation of Ichirou. It comes from two different Japanese words – ichi which means “one” and rou which means “son”. Traditionally, this name was given to the families’ first son.
Even though Ichiro Suzuki was the second son born in his family, his father was sure his son was special. Turns out he was right, Ichiro became a baseball legend in both Japan and America.
