The singer Holly Dunn has passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 59-years-old. The singer and songwriter was well-known in the country music world with many top ten hits, including “You Really Had Me Going” and “Daddy’s Hands”.
She started performing while in high school and right after attending Christian University moved to Nashville to follow her dreams. Dunn came into fame in the late 1980s and early 90s with a string of songs she co-wrote with her brother Chris Waters.
In 1985, Dunn released her very first single on MTM. This was followed by her debut album in 1986, which had one of her well-known songs on it - “Daddy’s Hands”. She wrote this song by herself and it’s about a loving father-daughter relationship.
Dunn officially retired in 2003 and focused on visual arts instead. She produced many beautiful paintings that are inspired by the landscape in the southwest.
She was diagnosed with cancer in June and accepted the diagnoses easily with the help of her Christian faith. The WSMV in Nashville reported that Dunn was receiving hospice care in Albuquerque before she died.
The feminine name Holly is taken from the English word that is for the holly tree, which is derived from the Old English holen. The name is also an Irish surname that is derived from the Old English word hol leah that is locational and means “dwelling by the clearing by the hollow” or descriptive and taken from the word hol-eage that means “hollow-eyed”.
This is definitely the most important factor. When you say the name aloud does it have a pleasing sound? Choose a name and say it repeatedly. Call it out loud and see if it appeals to you and your spouse. Also, call out the first name along with your last name.
