Along with fellow Olympian Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz apologized to the world, his team, his university and the U.S. Olympic Committee for his involvement in the “so-called” robbery in Rio. The embarrassing controversy was revealed after four swimmers claimed that a robbery occurred.
The incident involved swimmers from the U.S. team who appeared to be robbed by police officers last Sunday. However, in a statement from Bentz on the athletics website of the University of Georgia, that the swimmers were not robbed.
In fact, the swimmers were misbehaving. After discovering that the convenience store they stopped at to relieve themselves didn’t have a washroom, the swimmers peed on the side of the building. Then they were approached by a couple of security guards, who were armed, and asked pay them in order to leave. In the end, the swimmers ended up paying and then apologizing to everyone.
