The host of On the Record for Fox News, Greta Van Susteren has decided to leave the network. The host has been with Fox since 2002, performing the nightly news. Van Susteren will be replaced by Brit Hume a senior political analyst, according to the network.
She has not felt like she belonged at Fox News Channel for a couple of years now and took advantage of the terms in her contract to leave. This made it hard to leave behind her colleagues, staff and viewers, as well as, the viewers that left the bad comments too.
Van Susteren hopes to continue working in broadcasting. The co-presidents from Fox Network, Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy, have stated that they are thankful for all her contributions and wish her success in the future.
The feminine name Greta is short for Margareta or Margaret, which was taken from the Latin Margarita. Margarita was derived from the Greek name Margarites that meant “pearl”. The name was borne to Saint Margaret, who was the patron of expectant mothers. Her legend is depicted in art from the Middle Ages, making the name popular throughout the Christian world.
Besides Saint Margaret, the name was also given to many other saints and royalty from many countries. However, the name Greta became popular after the Swedish actress by the name of Greta Garbo graced the stage.
