Garrett Camp – Canadian Entrepreneur

Garrett Camp is the co-founder of StumbleUpon, which is an amazing web-discovery platform that has more than 25 million users. He managed to start this web-based platform while in graduate school at the University of Calgary. TIME magazine named StumbleUpon one of the 50 best websites in 2007 and a must have application in 2013.

In 2009, he co-founded another company, Uber an on-demand car service that is available to people through a mobile application. Currently, Uber is in 58 countries around the world, with drivers in 400 cities. In 2012, Uber was listed by Forbes at one of the top companies and by 2013 it was listed as the sixth most innovative companies by Fast Company.

Besides StumbleUpon and Uber, he also created the new platform, Expa, which is for companies of the future. This startup studio allows founders to develop and launch products they have created to increase the likelihood of success.

In 2016, Camp was named the third richest Canadian by Forbes, with a fortune of around $6.2 billion. Camp, 37, rocketed up the Forbes charts this year from the 283rd spot to the 188th spot, in the world.

The masculine name Garrett is taken from an English surname that is derived from the given name Gerard or Gerald. Gerald is taken from a Germanic name that means “rule of the spear”. While the name Gerard is derived from the Germanic element ger, which means “spear” and is combined with the word hard that means “brave or hardy”.
