The founder of Canana Films located in Mexico City, Gael García Bernal is not only a producer and director but a well-known actor. He is known for his amazing performances in the films “The Motorcycle Diaries,” “Bad Education,” and “Babel”, as well as, Amazon’s Studio’s web tv series “Mozart in the Jungle”.
Bernal is extremely committed to the characters he plays, from Che Guevara in “The Motorcycle Diaries” to the transgender drag artist in “Bad Education”. He will go to extremes to get into the role, even stopping to get his legs waxed or swimming in the Amazon. He even had to get a bunch of spider eggs removed from his leg after roaming around in the Amazon for “Diaries”.
He has been nominated for a BAFTA Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his performance in “the Motorcycle Diaries". In 2016, he took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for “Mozart in the Jungle” and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine.
When he is not acting, he is helping to create the organization Ambulante A.C., which brings film festivals to places they are rarely shown. He also helped to make the Amnesty International documentary series “Los Invisibles”.
