Florence Henderson Has Passed Away

The mom of “The Brady Bunch,” has passed away at the age of 82-years-old in Los Angeles. Her publicist, David Brokaw confirmed the sad news and stated that she passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from heart failure.

Until just a few days ago, Henderson was very active. Then she started to feel unwell but expected to bounce back with no problems.

Henderson began her career as a soprano in some musicals during the 1950s. Then in 1969, she was asked to be in the pilot episode of “The Brady Bunch,” as the upbeat mom and the rest is history.

“The Brady Bunch” was about a woman with three daughters, who meets and marries a man with three sons. The comedy attracted many viewers until 1974, during a time of social change due to the Vietnam War.

The show had a loyal following and it had many spin-offs and reunion specials, even a couple of feature films. Henderson was often defending the show from people who criticized it from being simple and having wholesome plots that were based on a perfect “portrait of family life” - she stated that the show was supposed to be from the perspective of a child.

The feminine name Florence is taken from the Latin name Florentius or even from the feminine version of Florentia, both names were derived from the word florens that means “flourishing or prosperous”. The name Florentius was given to many Christian saints and was occasionally used in the Middle Ages to honor them.
