The wrestler, Daniel Dennis, has spent a long time out in nature trying to find himself by climbing rocks. After finishing university and competing in many wrestling matches, he decided it was time to clear his head and think about the future.
Dennis purchase an old Ford from Craigslist and set out west towards Utah, planning to live in his vehicle and just climb. The long and sometimes lonely drive across America back in 2013 was just the first miles of his trek to the Olympic games.
This wrestling champion had won the title, not once but twice, in college. While attending the University of Iowa, Daniel wrestled in the NCAA championship in 2010 but lost in the last few seconds. Crushed by the match, it made him re-evaluate his life and future. He needed a change and an escape to the desert – mountain climbing and making new friends – was just the ticket.
After, finding himself and letting his body and mind recover, he came back to wrestling. Training for the Olympic Games in Rio with new passion for the sport.
