The 1980s club singer, Colonel Abrams has passed away at the age of 67-years-old from various ailments. He was well-known for his dance music and R&B hits, including “I’m Not Gonna Let You” or “Trapped”.
Abrams was born in Detroit in 1949 and at the age of ten moved to New York City. His most played song, “Trapped” went to the top of the charts in the US and UK in 1985, which was followed up by his self-titled album that also went to the top of the charts the next year.
Then in 1986, his song “I’m Not Gonna Let You” was at the top of the dance charts for a week. Abrams fourth dance hit was “How Soon We Forget,” which was released at the same time as his second album - You and Me Equals Us.
After his amazing career, Abrams struggled with diabetes and homelessness for awhile. In fact, the radio station WBLS in New York City held a fundraiser for him in January. There were many celebrities and musical groups that showed up to the fundraiser hosted by Full Force’s Bow-Legged Lou, from performances by First Choice, Me’Lisa Morgan, Lillo Thomas, Ladies of Skyy to Double Exposure and even more.
