Against doctors orders, the NBA Star Charles Barkley went to visit Craig Sager before he had a bone marrow transplant. The TNT reporter, Sager is on his third treatment and will continue to receive care for his acute myeloid leukemia in Houston, Texas. Barkley showed up at the MD Anderson Cancer Center just a few days before Sager had the transplant. Just a month after he had his own hip replacement surgery and was under a travel restriction.
When Barkley’s doctor found out about the Hall of Fame star was going against his orders, he was furious. Barkley explained that it was an emergency – Sager’s wife had come down with a cold and could not visit him in the hospital. As soon as Barkley heard, he traveled to support Sager in his time of need.
Sager has suffered since 2014 from leukemia. However, the sports broadcaster continues to work, while undergoing chemotherapy. Barkley remarked that he went to cheer Sager up and instead left the hospital wondering if anything was actually wrong, as his positive attitude is amazing.
