The police chief of D.C., Cathy Lanier, has announced that she will be leaving the force to become the head of security for the National Football League. Ending her decade of service to the police force will be hard for the permanent female leader.
The 49-year-old was on an unusually long tenure with the major police force, which would have lasted until January. However, she has decided to take the unique job opportunity with the NFL, working to protect professional athletes.
The change will happen next month, and in the meantime, Lanier will appoint an interim chief and start searching for a replacement. The new leader will come from within the department, so the job will be difficult.
Even though the announcement was unexpected, due to the fact that she has been a with the police department for so long, she is more than qualified for the new job. She looks forward to keeping America’s favorite sport safe and secure.
The name is a feminine English name and is a diminutive of Catherine or Katherine. The name was taken from the Greek name Aikaterine or Hekaterine, which means “each of the two”. Others think the name was derived from the goddess Hecate, which means “far off”. Still, others believe it is derived from the Greek word aikia meaning “torture”. It could even mean “my consecration of your name” from the Coptic name. However, Cathy Lanier does not seem to embody any of these qualities.
