Casey Neistat’s App Bought by CNN

The YouTube creator, Casey Neistat made a Video App – Beme – that has been scooped up by the cable news network CNN. The app is a social media platform that was made popular because of the social media following Neistat has.

The app will bring new technology to CNN, which will allow the company to use the young digital following that Neistat has. The deal is worth approximately $25 million according to those who follow apps and technology like this.

On top of the application, CNN will also launch a separate media company that will be lead by Neistat and the co-founder of Beme - Matt Hackett. According to CNN, the company will be up and running next summer and will focus on allowing creators to use video and technology to “find their voice”.

Neistat’s app Beme allows users to create and share short, unedited video clips. While the app has a large following because of Neistat it has not grown as it has a hard time competing with Instagram and Snapchat. However, the deal with CNN will allow Neistat to connect with brand new audiences.

The feminine or masculine name Casey is taken from an Irish surname, which is an Anglicized version of O Cathasaigh that means “descendant of Cathasach”. The name Cathasach means “watchful or vigilant”. In some cases, the name is given to people in honor of Casey Jones, who was a train engineer that sacrificed his life to save others.
