Amal Clooney talks about ISIS

George and Amal Clooney have talked about the many “risks” associated with taking ISIS to trial for genocide. Amal is a high-profile human rights lawyer that is discussing the legal implications and potential safety risks of this plan.

In an interview on the Today show, Amal revealed that she discussed this plan with her husband and the risks. However, both know how important it is to those who are being captured and tortured by ISIS.

After meeting with an activist and survivor of ISIS, Nadia Murad, the Iraqi girl moved the couple to think about taking action. Amal explains that even though she is being praised for being brave – it is Murad who is the real hero.

In fact, Clooney has already spoke at the United Nation gathering about Murad, hoping that they will open an investigation into Iraq’s Yazidi community and the genocide that is happening.

Cynthia McFadden from NBC responded that there are those that believe that ISIS should be bombed to pieces, instead of brought to court. However, Clooney replied that it’s not enough to use violence to get rid of an idea, there are better ways to deal with their corruption and brutality – it can be done through a trial for the most part.

The Arabic name Amal is both masculine and feminine and means “aspiration, expectation, longing, or hope” in Arabic. It is also related to the name Amaal. This is the perfect name for the Lebanese-British activist, lawyer and author Amal Clooney.
