Agosta Liko – African Entrepreneur

Founder and CEO, Agosta Liko, is the creator of PesaPal a safe and secure method for people and businesses in Africa to make and accept payments. The new technology has been described as the “PayPal” of Kenya, allowing people to make online payments using mobile devices.

PesaPal is designed to meet Africa's needs, it applies to the concept of “social cash,” which is part of the culture. Social cash is part of the tradition of raising money for funeral committees, weddings or Harambee a type of fundraiser. PesaPal was developed to maintain and track the cheques, cash, and mobile payments during these special occasions.

Africa has a different system than the rest of the world, the people rely on “micropayments” which are low lumps sums of money given daily from $2-5. To people in the Western culture, this may not seem like a lot of money, to people in Africa it is a lot of money and can buy more there.

In 2016, Agosta Liko was honored as one of the Best Innovators in Africa from Quartz. Furthermore, Hot Topics named him one of the 100 most influential Fintech leaders.

The masculine name Agosta is has a Latin origin, taken from the name Agosto that means “magnificent or great”. While others believe that it is a byname for that denotes someone who was born in the month of August. It can also be a personal name, taken from the Latin name Augustus that is from the word augere that means “to increase”.
