Shunpei Mizuno Origin/Culture/Country: Japanese
Shunpei Mizuno: a Japanese author who used to write under the pen name Shunsui Nohira (????, Nohira Shunsui?). His primary area of writing is on Korean culture; he has also published instructional books for Korean learners of Japanese.[1] By his own testimony, he became interested in Korea as a middle school student, after seeing hangul characters for the first time. He attended Noboribetsu South High School and then Nara Prefecture's Tenri University, where he majored in Korean language; in 1990, he entered into a Ph.D. programme in Korean literature at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, South Korea. After completing his dissertation, he remained at the same university, where he took up a post as a lecturer in 1995.[2] While living there, he married a Korean woman from Jeollabuk-do, with whom he had three sons. In total, he lived in South Korea for 15 years.[3]

Shunpei Hashioka: a Japanese boxer who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics.In 1936 he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight class after losing his fight to Stig Cederberg.

Ueyama Shunpei: a Japanese philosopher associated with the postwar Kyoto School. He graduated in philosophy from Kyoto University in 1943, and trained in a kamikaze human torpedo (gyorai:??) squad. His main professional interest in philosophy lies in the fields of logic, and American pragmatism, especially with its founding fathers Charles Sanders Peirce, William James and John Dewey. He is now emeritus professor at Kyoto University.[1]
