Hiroyuki Agawa: a 20th century Japanese author born on December 24, 1920 in Hiroshima, Japan.As a high school student Agawa became influenced by the Japanese author Naoya Shiga. He entered the Tokyo Imperial University to study Japanese literature. Upon its graduation in 1942, Agawa was conscripted to serve in the Imperial Japanese Navy, where he worked as an intelligence officer breaking the Chinese military code until the end of the war.After WWII Agawa wrote his first short story Nennen Saisai (Years upon Years, 1946), which was a classical I Novel following the style of Naoya Shiga. The piece was introduced to Shiga before its publication and admitted by the old literary tycoon; since then Agawa was recognized as a member of Shiga School. Agawa later confirmed he was having hard times as a proffessinal author until his Citadel in Spring (????, 1952) was awarded the Yomiuri Prize.
