Because of this status, he was able to register as a Sanfrecce Hiroshima player while he was still eligible to play for his high school club. However, he did not play any official match for Hiroshima.He was part of the Japanese 2004 Olympic football team, who exited in the first round, having finished fourth in group B, below group winners Paraguay, Italy and Ghana.

He won two bronze medals in the team large hill event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships (2007, 2009).Ito competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics held in Pragelato, finishing 18th in the individual normal hill, 42nd in the individual large hill, and sixth in the team large hill event. At the 2004 FIS Ski Flying World Ski Championships, he finished 20th in the individual event and 5th in the team event.
