Tanaka Hisashige: was a Japanese engineer and inventor during the late Edo and Meiji period Japan. He is one of the founders of what later became Toshiba Corporation. He has been called the "Thomas Edison of Japan" or " Karakuri Giemon". [1]Tanaka was born in Kurume, Chikugo province (present day Fukuoka prefecture) as the eldest son of a tortoise shell craftsman. A gifted artisan, in his youth he studied the design and construction of karakuri dolls, mechanical automatons capable of relatively complex movements, which were then much in demand by the aristocrats of Kyoto, daimyo in various feudal domains, and by the Shogun’s court in Edo. At the age of twenty-one, he performing around the country at festivals with clockwork dolls he constructed himself.

Tanaka Giichi: was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army, politician, and the 26th Prime Minister of Japan from 20 April 1927 to 2 July 1929.Tanaka was born to a samurai family in Hagi, Nagato Province (modern day Yamaguchi Prefecture), Japan. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy and the Army War College in 1892, and served in the First Sino-Japanese War, and later in the Russo-Japanese War, as aide to General Kodama Gentaro. In 1906, he helped draft a defense plan which was so highly regarded by the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff that it was adopted by as basic policy until World War I.

Masami Tanaka: is a former breaststroke swimmer from Japan, who won the bronze medal in the 4x100m Medley Relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Her winning teammates in that race were Mai Nakamura, Junko Onishi, and Sumika Minamoto. She competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996.

Masayuki Tanaka: a Japanese vocalist. He was born in Imari, Saga Prefecture. He is the original vocalist of the band Crystal King (???????? ,Kurisutaru Kingu?), known for their anime soundtracks such as Fist of the North Star (???? ,Hokuto no Ken?) where Tanaka provided the vocals in the chorus of its opening theme. After leaving Crystal King, he started his solo career and along the line lost his voice after being struck in the throat by a baseball and was never able to regain his original vocal range. In the late 1990s and early 2000's, he worked on the soundtracks of the tokusatsu series Ultraman Gaia (????????? ,Urutoraman Gaia?) and Kamen Rider Kuuga (????????? ,Kamen Raida Kuga?). He is also featured on the Katamari Damacy soundtrack Katamari Fortissimo Damacy where he sings "Katamari on the Rock" (??????? ,Katamari on za Rokku?), the main theme of the game.

She became a leading actress at an early age, appearing in Yasujiro Ozu's I Graduated, But... in 1929. The following year she played the lead in Aiyoku no ki, and in 1931 she appeared in Japan's first talkie, The Neighbor's Wife and Mine, directed by Heinosuke Gosho.She had a close working relationship with director Kenji Mizoguchi, having parts in 15 of his films, including leading roles in The Life of Oharu (1952), Ugetsu (1953) and Sansho the Bailiff (1954). She also played Noboru Yasumoto's mother in Akira Kurosawa's Red Beard (1965). For her portrayal in Kei Kumai's Sandakan N° 8 she won in 1975 the Silver Bear at the Berlinale. Her last screen appearance was in 1976 in Kei Kumai's Kita No Misaki.
