Máximo Etchecopar: was an Argentine diplomat, writer and early adherent of the nationalist strain in the country's political and intellectual elite.Born in Tucuman, Etchecopar attended the University of Buenos Aires and graduated with a law degree.[1] He became part of a Catholic cultural movement along with the likes of Leopoldo Marechal and Francisco Luis Bernárdez.[1] A disciple and friend of José Ortega y Gasset he became a close ally of Rodolfo Irazusta and Carlos Ibarguren.[2] He wrote for such journals as Sol y Luna and Nueva Politica in defence of oligarchy and in praise of Juan Manuel de Rosas.[2] His works also appeared in Balcón, the journal of anti-Semitic hardliner Julio Meinvielle.[2] In 1942 he was a leading delegate at the Congresa de la Recuperación Nacional at Buenos Aires, a failed attempt to unite the various strands of nationalist thought in the country.[2]

In a career that spanned six decades, he attained his greatest peak and influence with the Philippine Star, which he co-founded in 1986, and where he served as publisher until his death. Carl Johann Maximowicz: was a Russian botanist. Maximowicz spent most of his life studying the flora of the countries he had visited in the Far East, and naming many new species. He worked at the Saint Petersburg Botanical Gardens from 1852 as curator of the herbarium collection, becoming Director in 1869.From 1853-1857 he traveled around the world. He travelled with another Baltic-German Leopold von Schrenck to the Amur region in eastern Asia. From 1859 to 1864 he also he visited China, Korea and Japan. He arrived in Japan in late 1860, initially basing his operations in Hakodate. He traveled extensively in southern Japan and for much of 1862 including the region of Yokohama and Mount Fuji, he ended that year in Nagasaki. He also explored much of Kyushu.[1]
