Gadifer De La Salle: was a French knight and crusader of Norman origin who, with Jean de Béthencourt, conquered and explored the Canary Islands for the Kingdom of Castile. Gadifer had won renown in the French campaigns against England during the Hundred Years' War (1337–1453). While on a campaign against Tunisian pirates in 1390, he met Jean de Béthencourt, who later pledged his domain to finance their expedition to the Canary Islands. Gadifer de La Salle had joined Béthencourt at La Rochelle.[1]

Adrien-Nicolas Piédefer, Marquis De La Salle: was a French writer and cavalry officer who saw service in the Seven Years War, a writer of comedies and libretti, and a Masonic brother of Benjamin Franklin. He was appointed maréchal de camp in 1791;[1] He was appointed Governor of the west province of Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) the following year, and twice governor-general.[2] He was eventually a brigadier general.

Roch La Salle: was a Canadian politician who served in the province of Quebec. He spent 18 years as a Federal Member of Parliament. He represented the riding of Joliette. A popular figure, he was re-elected six times during his tenure.La Salle quit the party in 1971 to protest Tory leader Robert Stanfield's rejection of the concept that Canada was composed of "two nations" (deux nations) and that Quebec had the right to self-determination. He was re-elected as an independent candidate in the 1972 election with the support of the separatist Parti Québécois. He returned to the Tory caucus in early 1974.
