She helped downed British airmen and others to escape France until 1942, when it is believed that one of her fellow resistance workers, Harold Cole, betrayed the group and she had to flee to England.

Heinrich Philipp August Damerow: was a German psychiatrist who was born in Stettin, Province of Pomerania, Prussia (today Szczecin, Poland). In 1822 he earned his doctorate in Berlin, where he was a student of Hegel, Schleiermacher and psychiatrist Anton Ludwig Ernst Horn. He continued his education in Paris, where he studied under Jean-Étienne Dominique Esquirol, and at the Siegburg asylum north of Bonn, where he met with Carl Wigand Maximilian Jacobi. In 1830 he became an associate professor, and in 1836 was appointed director of a mental institution near Halle.
