Carl Sigurd Winther            Origin/Culture/Country: Norwegian

Carl Sigurd Winther: was a Norwegian businessperson and politician for the Conservative Party. He was a member of Sarpsborg city council from 1922. From 1923 to 1931 he chaired the local party chapter. He was a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from the Market towns of Østfold and Akershus counties during the term 1937–1945, and met regularly for Robert Rafn in 1938 and 1939. He was a board member of the Norwegian Gymnastics Federation from 1922 to 1925, and chaired the sports club TIL National after the Second World War. During the war he enrolled in the Norwegian forces during the Norwegian Campaign. After the Norwegian forces lost the campaign, he joined the Norwegian resistance movement. He came close to being apprehended and had to flee to Sweden on 29 January 1945. He died in December 1962 and is buried in Sarpsborg.

Rasmus Villads Christian Ferdinand Winther: was a Danish lyric poet. He began to publish verse in 1819, but no collected volume appeared until 1828. Meanwhile, from 1824 to 1830, Winther was supporting himself as a tutor. A large inheritance from his uncle, Rasmus Winther, allowed him in 1830 to travel to Italy for a year. In 1835 a second volume of lyric poems appeared, and in 1838 a third. In 1841 King Christian VIII of Denmark appointed Winther to travel to Mecklenburg to instruct Princess Mariane, on the occasion of her betrothal to the Crown Prince of Denmark, in the Danish language.When he was over fifty, Winther married. Further collections of lyrics appeared in 1842, 1848, 1850, 1853, 1865 and 1872. In 1851 he, who had for most of his life been pestered by heavy debts, received a pension from the state as a poet, and for the next quarter of a century he resided mainly in Paris.

Jens Winther: was a Danish jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader. He composed for and played in a long line of European big bands and other orchestras. His work includes compositions for symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles and choirs. As a bandleader, he was noted on the international Jazz scene with his JW European Quartet (originally a quintet), particularly since 2007. In 2008, he founded the fusion band JW Electrazz. From 2009, he was based in Berlin, Germany. In 1991, after the end of the workshop, he returned to Denmark. Subsequently he composed for numerous European big bands, mainly in the Nordic countries and Germany, as well as other orchestras and was a trumpeter in various constallations, including in his own band Jens Winther Group. On 5 May 1994, his first trumpet concerto for symphony orchestra, Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, was performed for the first time. In 1998, he toured with George Gruntz's concert band. On 29 April 1999, Winther and the Århus Symphony Orchestra performed his second trumpet concerto,The Eagle, for the first time in Århus Musikhus. He also collaborated with the Metropole Orchestra in the Netherlands on a number of occasions.

Lars Winther: is a Danish pianist, composer, producer and arranger. He released the debut-album LIVE_2005 with Lars Winther Trio in 2005, followed by the double-disc CD/DVD Nordic By Nature in 2007 — receiving many positive reviews for the latter, as well as distribution throughout Europe and in parts of Asia. In terms of potential, he has been compared to the Norwegian Tord Gustavsen. He has arranged and written for BigBands, a.o. Almost Arrangers BigBand, Klüvers BigBand, MI22, and MIBB (BigBand of Department of Musicology, University of Copenhagen).

Richard Winther: was considered one of the major Danish artists of the 20th century. He explored the arts extensively and his prolific career focused mainly on painting, graphics, photography and sculpture. Richard's work was greatly influenced by Asger Jorn and Richard Mortensen, both Danish artists part of the Linien group. As he evolved as a painter, his work shifted focus to the human body. He was a member of Eks-Skolen founded in 1961 by one of his friends, the artist Poul Gernes. Further, Richard Winther took his idea of recycling and applied it to his own work: he revisited many paintings of his as well as his photographic cameras accomplishing an "Rdo Re-do" where Rdo was his latest way of signing his art pieces.skolen). While always interested in photography, he dedicated a significant part of the 60s to this technique, which he would revisit time after time the following decades including his last years. Richard Winther's work is marked by particular themes such as Heronimous and Syndflod. Many of these themes fit the idea of recycled classicism. Between 1994 and 2007 he took the idea of recycling forward doing much of his pieces in cardboard. He took recycling to another level when taking previous artists's life and works and building further on those personalities.
