Wolfgang Borchert: was a German author and playwright whose work was affected by his experience of dictatorship and his service in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War.Borchert was born in Hamburg, the only child of teacher Fritz Borchert and author Hertha Borchert. Far from being an enthusiastic Nazi, Borchert hated his (compulsory) time in the party's youth wing, the Hitler Youth, from which (after much effort) he managed to resign. In 1940 he was arrested by the Gestapo (Secret State Police) and then released. The same year he reluctantly took up an apprenticeship at a Hamburg bookshop. While at the bookshop, Borchert secretly took acting lessons. In 1941, upon passing his acting examination, he left the apprenticeship and began working at a theatre in Hanover. His nascent theatrical career was cut short, however, by his conscription into the Wehrmacht only a few months later.

Katrin Borchert: is a German-born Australian sprint canoer who competed from the early 1990s to 2000. Competing in three Summer Olympics, she won three medals with one silver (1992: K-4 500 m for Germany) and two bronzes (both Australia, 1996: K-2 500 m, 2000: K-1 500 m).

Thomas Borchert: is a German actor, singer, and songwriter. He has performed especially in musical theatre. In 1988, Borchert, with his rock band "Cakewalk", won a prize in a music festival sponsored by the German broadcasting network NDR. He finished high school that same year, then went to the Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama in Hamburg. His first professional role was as Rum Tum Tugger in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, in 1990-91.
