Amer Alwan: an Iraqi French film director. Alwan was forced to shoot his movie Zaman, The Man From The Reeds on videotape, as when Iraq was under severe economic sanctions the United Nations and United States, would not allow Iraq to import 35 and 16 millimeter film stocks, because they believed that the materials contained some chemicals that could have been used to produce weapons of mass destruction.[2] So, he then transfer it to 35-millimeter film when he went back to Paris, where he has lived since 1980. He also had issues dealing with the Iraqi government censors. The film was shown at several film festivals in Europe, Latin America as well as the United States.[2]

Ali Mansour Alwan: an Iraqi football player who currently plays for Arbil FC in Iraq and the Iraq Olympic team, he plays as Striker.Ali Mansour , the Asian Games' silver medallist, was among the three (Alongside with Ali Abbas and Ali Khudhair) who planned to seek asylum in Australia, said Iraqi Football Association Assistant Secretary Tariq Ahmad. However he changed his mind and went back to Iraq.

Jaber Alwan: an Italian artist and painter of Iraqi descent.in 1948, Alwan graduated from the Institute of Fine Art in Baghdad in 1970. In 1972 he arrived in Rome and started painting in the famous Piazza Navona.In 1975 he gained a diploma degree in Sculpture from the Rome Academy of Fine Art. Ten years later the Municipality of Rome awarded him the prize of Best Artist, the first foreigner to receive this prize.

Maamoon Sami Rasheed Al-Alwani: was appointed governor of Iraq's Al Anbar province by the Anbar Provincial Council in May 2005. He is a member of the Abu Alwani clan, part of the Dulaim tribe.[4] His name was found along with the names of other prominent Iraqi Sunni leaders who had been targeted for assassination in a captured al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) document.[5]
