As of 2010 he lives in Berlin.[1] He moved to East Berlin in 1978 where he studied art (without completing a degree), worked a various jobs including gravedigger and carpenter.[1] In the 1980s he was a performance artist and poet.[1] In 2010 he won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for his short story "I'll find you/Bad love" (German: "Ich finde dich/Rabenliebe").[1]
