Marx and attended the school of composition of the Berlin Academy. There his teachers were Karl Rungenhagen and Eduard Grell. After graduating with high honors, he was appointed in 1840 choirmaster of the Berlin synagogue. In that capacity he rendered invaluable services in the development of music for synagogue ritual. His principal works include: "Kol Rinnah u-Tefillah," for chorus; "Todah ve-Zimrah," for mixed chorus, solo, and organ; 40 psalms, for solo, chorus, and organ; symphonies, overtures, cantatas, and songs.

She was the daughter of composers Juliane Reichardt (1752–1783) and Johann Friedrich Reichardt (1752-1814) and granddaughter of Franz Benda (1709-1786), concert master at the court of Frederick the Great. After Juliane Reichardt died, the family moved from Berlin to Giebichenstein near Halle. Louise Reichardt took music lessons from her father, and in 1800 four of her songs were published in a collection of his songs. She taught singing, and in 1809 moved to Hamberg where she studied with Johann Frederich Clasing. Reichardt was active in Hamberg as a choral conductor and established a Gesangverein choral society in Hamberg. She also translated the Latin works of Hasse and Graun into German.[1][2]

Episcopius was educated at the St. Rumbolds Cathedral in Mechelen by choirmaster Theo Verelst, who was also the teacher of Philippus de Monte and Cypriano de Rore. Episcopius studied from 1538 till 1541 at the University of Leuven and became a priest. From 1545 till 1565 and from 1577 till 1585, he was choirmaster at the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht. He was replaced by Jean de Chaynée; when his successor got assassinated, Episcopius recovered his former position. About 1582, he exchanged the Low Countries for Munich where in 1584 he became a singer in the choir that was lead by Orlando di Lasso. He retired in 1591 and became a canon in Straubing.
