Gordon David Strachan: He started his career at Dundee where he was their youngest ever captain, but it wasn't until he was signed by Aberdeen in November 1977 that he came to prominence. With the famous Aberdeen team of the 1980s, one of the few sides to break the traditional dominance of the Old Firm in Scottish football, he won two Scottish League titles, three Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Graeme "Shirley" Strachan: was the lead singer of Australian 1970s rock group Skyhooks. Born in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern, he was an avid surfer, and his nickname "Shirley" was given to him by his surfer friends because of his long, sunbleached and very curly hair, referring to Shirley Temple. He first pursued a solo singing career during his time as a Skyhook and released a number of records, the most successful of which was his cover of "Every Little Bit Hurts" in 1976.

Rodney ("Rod") Strachan: is an American swimmer and olympic champion. He competed at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, where he received a gold medal in 400 m individual medley. He received a silver medal at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships in Belgrade.

James McGill Strachan: was a lawyer, business and political figure in Canada West. He joined the law practice of John Hillyard Cameron in Toronto as a partner. In 1841, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Huron; he was unseated after a successful appeal by William Tiger Dunlop. He also served on the Toronto city council. He went bankrupt in 1847 after speculating in land and railway companies but had recovered by 1853. He died in Toronto in 1870.
