Jean-Maurice Simard: was a Canadian Chartered Accountant and politician remembered as a strong promoter of French language rights and defender of Canadian bilingualism. In the 1968 federal election, he ran unsuccessfully as the Progressive Conservative candidate in the riding of Madawaska—Victoria to his Liberal opponent, Eymard Corbin. He ran as a Progressive Conservative and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick representing the riding of Edmundston in the 1970 election. He was re-elected in 1974, 1978, and 1982. He was the Minister of Finance (from 1970 to 1974), Chair of the Treasury Board (from 1976 to 1978) and Minister for Public Service Reform (from 1982 to 1985). In 1985, he resigned his seat to the legislature to accept an appointment by Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to the Senate of Canada representing the senatorial division of Edmundston. He sat with the Progressive Conservative caucus, except for the period from March 15 to June 30, 1988 when he sat as an Independent Progressive Conservative.

Georges-Honoré Simard: was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He represented Quebec-Centre in the 1st Canadian Parliament as a Conservative member and in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1867 to 1871. He later became the owner of the Quebec Plaster Mills. He also served as president or vice-president for several firms. Simard was elected to represent Quebec City in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in an 1856 by-election; he was reelected in 1857 and 1861 in Quebec-Centre. He supported the choice of Quebec City over Ottawa as a capital. In 1867, he was elected to both the federal and provincial legislatures. He retired from politics after completing his terms in office.

Télesphore Simard: was a Canadian businessman and politician, serving as mayor of Quebec City from December 1927 to March 1928. He was elected without opposition to the charge of alderman (échevin) in the Saint-Roch ward of Québec in the 1924 election and again in the 1926 election. After the resignation of mayor Valmont Martin, Simard became mayor when the city council chose him on December 6, 1927, to complete the mayoral term of office ending March 1, 1928.[1] During his short administration, the city adopted bylaws for borrowing substantial sums of money to finance public works, including modifications to the aqueduct and drainage system, building an annex to the Hôpital civique and building a bridge on the river Lairet. Simard was defeated by Oscar Auger in the 20 February 1928 city election by a 7046 to 4752 vote.
