Édouard Albert Roche: was a French astronomer and mathematician, who is best known for his work in the field of celestial mechanics. He gave his name to the concepts of the Roche sphere, Roche limit and Roche lobe. He is perhaps most famous for his theory that the planetary rings of Saturn were formed when a jumbo moon came too close to Saturn and was pulled apart by gravitational forces. He described a method of calculating the distance at which an object held together only by gravity would break up due to tidal forces; this distance became known as the Roche limit.

André Roche: is an artist, an illustrator and an author of comics and children's books. André Roche received a Bachelor’s degree of Tourism, Hotel Administration and Culinary Arts (= "BTH") from the Lycée Hôtelier Alexandre Dumas in Strasbourg. He began his career in Germany, working in various establishments in order to perfect his knowledge of German. In 1971, he decided to settle in Bavaria while working at the prestigious Tantris restaurant in Munich.

Estienne De La Roche: was a French mathematician. Sometimes known as Estienne de Villefranche, La Roche was born in Lyon, but his family also owned property in Villefranche-sur-Saône, where he lived during his youth. He studied mathematics with Nicolas Chuquet. Having in his possession Chuquet's manuscripts, it is probable that La Roche was on good terms with Chuquet. He taught commercial mathematics in Lyon for 25 years. He is regarded today as a professor of arithmetic (at the time, Master of Figures).

Pierre Roche: was a French sculptor and medallist, and father to Louis Massignon. Roche was born in Paris, where he first studied medicine and chemistry, but then switched to studying painting at the Académie Julian 1873-1878 under Alfred Roll, and exhibited at the Paris Salon 1884-1889.
