Martin was taken first overall by the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Portland Trail Blazers in 1972, drafted ahead of future Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo.[1] Martin has been cited as the worst first overall draft pick in NBA history.[1]

After serving only one term, the 17th Canadian Parliament, riding boundary changes resulted in LaRue seeking re-election at the new Matapédia—Matane where he was defeated by Arthur-Joseph Lapointe of the Liberals in the 1935 federal election. LaRue made an unsuccessful bid to return to Parliament at Matapédia—Matane under the National Government banner in the 1940 federal election.

He represented Bellechasse in the Canadian House of Commons from 1878 to 1881 as a Liberal member.Larue was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the House of Commons in an 1875 by-election.
