Ancel Benjamin Keys: was an American scientist who studied the influence of diet on health. In particular, he hypothesised that different kinds of dietary fat had different effects on health.He examined the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and was closely associated with two famous diets: K-rations, which were formulated as balanced meals for combat soldiers in World War II; and "the Mediterranean diet," which, with his wife Margaret, he popularized. Jacques Ancel: was a French geographer and geopolitician. He is author of several books, including Peoples and Nations of Balkans: political geography (1926) and Geopolitics (1936).After studying history and geography and professing as a teacher, Ancel was drafted to fight in World War I. Wounded three times, he was detached to the Headquarters of the French Army's Oriental Corps (fighting in the Ottoman Empire and the Balkans). After the war, he helped mediate the tense relations between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria. In 1930, Ancel obtained his doctorate with the thesis La Macédoine, étude de colonisation contemporaine ("Macedonia, a study in contemporary colonization").

Robert Francis Dudgeon Ancell: was a Scottish football player and manager. He played as a left back and was capped twice by the Scottish national side.Ancell was born in in Dumfries and his playing career began with local side Mid Annandale, from where he moved to St Mirren in 1930. After six years in Paisley, Ancell was signed by Newcastle United for the start of the 1936-37 season. Within months of his move south Ancell received international recognition, making his Scotland debut in a 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland. He returned north upon the outbreak of World War II, guesting for numerous teams before permanently joining Dundee. After 4 years with the Dark Blues, he played his final campaign with Aberdeen in 1948-49.
