Osmo Ilmari Kaila: was a Finnish chess master and chess problemist.Kaila took 3rd, behind Gideon Ståhlberg and Erik Lundin, at Oslo 1939 (The 20th Nordic Championship), and won at Copenhagen 1946 (The 21st Nordic Championship).[2] In 1947, he tied for 7-8th in Helsinki (zonal, Eero Böök and Gösta Stoltz won).

Osmo Vänskä: a Finnish orchestra conductor. He started his musical career as an orchestral clarinetist with the Turku Philharmonic (1971-1976).[1] He then became the principal clarinet of the Helsinki Philharmonic from 1977 to 1982. During this time, he started to study conducting with Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy, where his classmates included Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. In 1982, he won the Besançon Young Conductor's Competition.He became principal guest conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in 1985, and chief conductor in 1988. He concluded his tenure with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra in 2008 and is now the orchestra's Conductor Laureate. His complete set of Sibelius symphonies with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, also on the BIS label, has gathered widespread acclaim. He has recorded extensively with his Lahti orchestra for the BIS label, including music of Kalevi Aho, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Bernhard Henrik Crusell, Uuno Klami, Tauno Marttinen, Robert Kajanus, Sofia Gubaidulina, Joonas Kokkonen, Jan Sandström, and Fredrik Pacius

Osmo Tapio Räihälä: is a Finnish composer of contemporary music. He has mainly written instrumental music for various chamber music line-ups, three concertos (one for mallet instruments, a viola concerto and a cello concerto) as well as for symphony orchestra[1]. His best known work is the 2005 orchestral portrait Barlinnie Nine, a tribute to the Scottish football player Duncan Ferguson, then of Everton, whom Räihälä is known to be a supporter of.[2] In 2004, another orchestral tribute, this time to the Islay single malt whisky Ardbeg, was chosen as one of recommended works in the international Uuno Klami competition[3].
