Walter Lawry Buller: was a New Zealand lawyer, naturalist and ornithologist.Buller was the author of A History of the Birds of New Zealand (1872-1873, 2nd ed. 1887-1888), with illustrations by John Gerrard Keulemans. In 1882 he produced the Manual of the Birds of New Zealand as a cheaper, popular alternative. In 1905, he published a two-volume Supplement to the History of the Birds of New Zealand which brought the work up to date.

Charles Edward Buller: was an English cricketer who played for Northamptonshire. He was born in Wellingborough and died in Northampton. Buller made a single first-class appearance, during the 1931 season, against Essex. Coming in at 11, he scored one run each in the first and second innings in which he batted, and then took no wickets off 11 overs. Northamptonshire lost the match by 105 runs and Buller never played for Northamptonshire again.

He played for Worcestershire between 1935 and 1946, having played once for Yorkshire in 1930. He made his debut as a first-class umpire in 1951. He umpired in 33 Tests between 1956 and 1969. He was awarded the MBE in 1965. A fearless umpire, he repeatedly called Geoff Griffin for throwing in the exhibition match staged following the early conclusion of the Lord's Test between England and South Africa in 1960, after Frank Lee had called him during the Test itself. This had the effect of ending Griffin's Test career.
