Alejandro (Alex) Jadad: was a Colombian poet, journalist and philosopher. He was famous in his country for being the founder of a literature and philosophy movement called "Nadaísmo" (Nothing-ism) with other young Colombian thinkers of his generation and that was inspired by the Colombian philosopher Fernando González Ochoa. The intensity of his life is full of contrasts from an open atheism to an intense spirituality, and a strong criticism of the society of his time. Those contrasts can be read in the First Manifesto of Nadaísmo as "The artist is considered sometimes a symbol fluctuation between holiness and madness".[1] Arango died in a tragic car accident in the city of Tocancipá in 1976 when he was planning to move to London so that "by losing me, Colombians win me".

Miguel Mariano Gómez Y Arias: was a Cuban politician who served as President of Cuba for seven months in 1936. Gómez was the son of Cuba's second president, José Miguel Gómez. Born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, he served several terms in the Cuban House of Representatives and in 1926 was elected mayor of Havana. As a participant in the 1931 revolt against the government, he went into exile in New York City, returning to Cuba in 1933 after the ouster of president Gerardo Machado. In 1934, he was again elected as mayor of Havana. Following years of political instability, Miguel Mariano Gómez was elected President of Cuba. Inaugurated May 20, 1936 he served until December when he was impeached and removed from office by a group that included future dictator, Fulgencio Batista. He then left Cuba for the United States and returned to Cuba in 1939. In 1940, he ran again for mayor of Havana but lost to Raul Menocal. After that he retired from public life.

José Joaquín Bautista Arias: is a former right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1988 to 1997. Bautista is observantly Jewish, born to a Dominican father and an Israeli mother. His mother's family was originally from Russia, as is his wife. Bautista and his wife maintain a Kosher home, as do fellow Jewish former Major Leaguers Ken Holtzman and Jesse Levis. Despite the fact that several Major Leaguers are from the Dominican Republic, Jose is the only Jewish player from their small Jewish community that numbers around 300 persons. Bautista was signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in April 1981. In 1984 he was 13–4 with a 3.13 ERA for Columbia in the South Atlantic League, and in 1985 he was 15–8 with a 2.34 ERA for Lynchburg in the Carolina League. Bautista spent seven years in the New York Mets system before being selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the December 1987 rule 5 draft. He joined the Orioles rotation in 1988, spending four years with them before moving to the Chicago Cubs (1993–94), San Francisco Giants (1995–96), Detroit Tigers (1997), and St. Louis Cardinals (1997).
