Mahadevi Varma: was one of the most famous modern Hindi poets. She is widely regarded as the "modern Meera"[citation needed]. She was a major poet of the Chhayavaad generation, a period of romanticism in Modern Hindi poetry.She was awarded, India's highest literary award, for lifetime achievement, the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 1976, followed by the Jnanpith award in 1982.Mahadevi was appointed as the first headmistress of Allahabad (Prayag) Mahila Vidyapeeth, which was started with a view to imparting cultural and literary education to girls through Hindi medium. Later, she became the chancellor of the institute.

Mate Mahadevi: She is perhaps the first Women to ascend to the seat of Jagadguru. She has made a special study of Basava's philosophy and teachings, and has given lucid exposition of the Vachanas in her writings and eloquent speeches. Has started an institution 'Jaganmatha Akkamahadevi Ashram' at Dharwar, which provides training and guidance to spiritual seekers, especially girls and women. She is dedicated to the uplift of women and the downtrodden sections of society. A prolific writer, she has authored and published about eighty works including the renowed expositions Basava's life and Works, Basava Tatva Darsana, and the Sahitya Academy Award-winner novel Heppitta Halu. Another novel Tarangini has been awarded First prize by Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha.
