Winfried Michel            Origin/Culture/Country: German

Winfried Michel: is a German recorder player, composer, and editor of music. Michel studied with Ingetraud Drescher, Nikolaus Delius, and Frans Brüggen. He is lecturer for the recorder at the Staatliche Hochschule Münster and at the Musikakademie Kassel. In addition to compositions published under his own name, he has written numerous pieces in the style of the early 18th century under the pseudonym Giovanni Paolo Simonetti. In 1993 he succeeded in convincing noted Haydn scholar H. C. Robbins Landon and the pianist/scholars Paul and Eva Badura Skoda that six piano sonatas he had composed were long-lost works by Joseph Haydn (Beckerman 1994; Linskoog 1996). Based on the opening few bars of six lost Haydn works, found in an old thematic index, these sonatas were published in 1995 as works by Haydn, "supplemented and edited by Winfried Michel." He has similarly completed the Viola Sonata left as a two-movement fragment by Mikhail Glinka.

Winfried Zillig: was a German composer, music theorist, and conductor. In 1927 he became the assistant of Erich Kleiber at the Berlin State Opera. A short time later he became repetiteur to the Oldenburg Opera. In the years 1932 to 1937, he acted as repetiteur and Kapellmeister at the Düsseldorf Opera. Positions followed as Kapellmeister in Essen and at the beginning of the 1940s as the musical leader of the Posen Opera. After the end of World War II he became the first Kapellmeister of the Düsseldorfer Oper. In the years 1947 to 1951 he occupied the position of conductor at the HR-Sinfonieorchester. After 1959 he led the musical division of Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Zillig died in 1963 in Hamburg.

Winfried Mahraun: was a German diver who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1936 he finished seventh in the 3 metre springboard event.

Winfried Brugger: was Professor of Public Law, Philosophy of Law and Theory of State at Heidelberg University. Brugger studied law, philosophy and sociology at the Universities in Munich and Tuebingen. After completing his Ph.D. (Dr. iur.) at Tuebingen University with the prize-winning book Menschenrechtsethos und Verantwortungspolitik. Max Webers Beitrag zur Analyse und Begruendung der Menschenrechte (1980) he studied for the LL.M. at the University of California in Berkeley (1981). Since that time, he has been publishing comparative articles and books on German and American constitutional law and theory and the philosophy of law.
